Gresham Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is your Jeep headquarters located in Gresham Oregon. No matter your need, we have the Jeep that you have been wanting for years.
Over the years, Jeep has evolved from the vehicle that was once only viewed as a functional "war" vehicle. In June 1940, the U.S. Army solicited bids from 135 automakers to produce a vehicle tailored to the Army's specifications. Only 3 companies responded and shortly after the Willys-Overland delivered the prototype "Quad". The initial prototype was completed in only 75 days.

As the years progressed, so did the Jeep. Think your Rubicon is tough? Some believe the most "powerful" Jeep vehicle ever built was the M-38A-1D. Maybe it doesn't quite roll off the tongue like the new Jeep Renegade, but this vehicle exemplified true toughness. How did the M-38A-1D strike fear in its' opponents? We don't know for sure, but it might have been the Davy Crocket missile it was equipped with that could shoot an atomic projectile up to 2,000 Meters. Today's Wrangler is fun to drive, but we guarantee you that it is not equipped with a missile launcher.

Ever wonder how the soft-top Wrangler was created? Well it may have originally been a four-wheel drive Ambulance that could get through the most rugged of terrain to rescue our soldiers during war. While your Wrangler may rescue you on the weekends from the boring suburban life you have been forced to settle with, the Jeep M-170 was scooping up the wounded during World War II.

By 1953, veterans were returning home from wars and they wanted the familiarity of the vehicles they had been driving while away at the war. Jeep recognized the desire for the vehicles and the CJ line was born with the first ever CJ-3B. The style was drastically different than its' military ancestor, but it had to be. The hood and grille needed to be taller to accommodate the larger engine that provided extra horse power. The new "F-head" overhead-valve engine not only set the tone for other manufacturers, but it also provided 25% more horsepower.

That is all factual history. The myth behind the Jeep and how it morphed from the M-38A-1D to Jeep is that our soldiers often referred to the vehicle as a "General Purpose" vehicle because of its' multiple uses and durability. Rumor has it that the soldiers started to call the vehicle a GP for short. As time went on, it evolved in to Jeep. We can't guarantee that is how it happened, but it makes sense to us.
Still with us? Good. The history lesson is done. A walk down memory lane is fun, but come on you got here because you are looking for a new Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Renegade, Compass or the all new Renegade. We guarantee you that these new vehicles do not come with missile launchers, but the new Renegade will get up to 31 highway MPG. With options available like backup cameras, heated leather seats, panoramic moon-roofs, heated steering wheels and DVD players available, today's Jeep is guaranteed to give you a more comfortable ride. Don't worry, we haven't completely sissified this American icon. The engineers at Jeep have found ways to keep the durability and ruggedness with all Jeep vehicles while providing it with the modern technology that they wish they had in that missile launching something or another.
Still confused? We didn't really expect you to get it. Unless you have ever owned one, you wouldn't get it. It's a Jeep thing.
